Arsenal takes on Champions Leagues’ best at Emirates

ArsenalArsenal survived what proved to be the most difficult group, after being tied for the lead with Napoli and Dortmund with each team having 12 points. The Italian side was sent home as a result of having a weaker goal average, and now Arsenal tries to make it to the next stage by causing the elimination of the team favorite to lift the trophy. It is not going to be an easy task, now that Bayern Munchen is riding a hot streak with six consecutive victories, five of them to nil.

The game itself promises to be extremely interesting as the leaders of Premier League and Bundesliga go head to head, but the visitors have the first chance to emerge victorious. Home pitch advantage is always massive in the elimination round of the Champions League, but the Germans’ results are so good that it is hard to go against them regardless of opponent.

They secured passage to the next stage of the German Cup, by destroying Hamburg away from home and then scored four goals against Freiburg while keeping a clean sheet. They achieved a similar performance against Frankfurt and Nuremberg and have scored a massive 16 goals this month alone. Mandzukic is their top scorer with 12 goals in 17 games, but Ribbery, Gotze and Robben have scored a combined 20 goals. These are three of the best midfielders in Europe and all of them are fit to play tonight.

Given the opposition, it comes as no surprise that Arsenal is credited with the second chance, yet the Gunners shouldn’t be underestimated. They swiftly rebounded after the humiliating 5-1 defeat to Liverpool and collected four points against Manchester United and Liverpool, also causing their elimination from the FA Cup. There are currently trailing Chelsea at the top of the Premier League within striking distance and the gaming hand, so things are more difficult than they would’ve hoped them to be.

Wenger brings loads of experience to the table and he’s got plenty of options up front, to keep his team alive even against an impressive team such as Bayern Munchen. Punters who seek value have no reason to back the visitors to prevail, instead should choose the double chance wager at odds close to even value. Another option would be to bet on more than 2.5 goals to be scored, because Arsenal has no choice but to go for the straight victory so that they stand a fighting chance in the second leg.
